Ze Records Story 1979, 2009. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Despite some overlap, Strut's ZE 30: ZE Records Story 1979-2009 complements the 2003 expanded reissue of Mutant Disco - a two-disc comp released by the then-revitalized ZE label, presumably out of circulation at the time of this set's release. Strut didn't come up with a definitive look at one of the maverick labels of the late '70s early '80s. Listening to Ze 30, compiled by Ze's Michel Esteban and Strut Records' Quinton Scott, you might think that Ze was a pretty good label instead of a great one. You would be misled. It certainly isn't the fault of the misfits who recorded all this fearless, cockeyed music, but Ze 30 is a confused baby. About half the cuts are obvious and half are obscure, raising the question of just who Strut and Ze were aiming at with this thing. After several listens, my guess is two-fold: Long-time fans and first time listeners. Naturally, they hit the woods. Album 2011 14 Songs. You Know What I Like. Bustin' Out Seize the Beat Version. Maladie D'amour. Aural Exciters. Dream Baby Dream Long Version. What Can I Do for You. Michael Dracula. Re Bop Electronic. Ze's highbrow mischief is an acquired taste - but the sheer inventiveness is intoxicating, says Dorian Lynskey. Compared with 2003's definitive Mutant Disco comp, this 30th anniversary retrospective makes some strange choices but it's still a treasure trove of wildly original art-house party music. Was Not Was and Material take disco inspiration from Ronald Reagan and Soledad Brother George Jackson respectively, James White and the Blacks blueprint punk-funk on Contort Yourself and Casino Music slither archly through Sonny & Cher's The Beat Goes On. If for no other reason, the label deserves a place in the music history books for signing the legendary, twisted synth duo Suicide for their second album and then releasing the first solo work by their singer Alan Vega. Their two cuts alone are worth getting this for, especially Suicide's astonishing Dream Baby Dream. Over a backdrop of Martin Rev's metronomic but startlingly organic beats, and uplifting analogue syn-drones, Vega croons through six minutes of faux-Elvis sweet nothings. ZE Records was originally a New York-based record label, started in 1978 by Michael Zilkha and Michel Esteban. It was reestablished by Esteban in 2003. Michael Zilkha b. 1954 is a British-born Oxford graduate of Iraqi descent, the son of Selim Zilkha, former owner of Mothercare, a major UK retail company, and the stepson of Cabinet member Lord Lever. In the mid-1970s, Zilkha worked in the New York publishing industry and was a contributor to the Village Voice
