Aṣa was born in Paris to Nigerian parents who were working and studying cinematography in France. Her family returned to live in Nigeria when she was two. Aṣa grew up in Lagos city, in the south-western part of Nigeria, and 18 years later, returned to Paris, where her life as an artist took off. Aṣa, Bukola Elemide born September 1982, is a French-Nigerian singer and song-writer. She combines styles of funk, pop, reggae, jazz, folk and soul. Aṣa pronounced Aasha means little hawk. She was born in Paris to Nigerian parents, but after two years she moved with her parents to Nigeria and grew up in the capital of Lagos. Her music is thus linked to her time in Western Africa. Asa grew up under the influence of her father's record collection, which included legendary artists such as Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Aretha Franklin. At the age of twelve read more. Music World Lyrics A Aṣa Albums Aṣa. Aṣa was the intro at our release-party for the Åsa album. The song is taken from our new album Åsa and it's named En Hymne Til Våre Udødelige Forfedre. Aṣa Q&A. However, the marvelous thing about the first full-length album by Nigerian soul belter Asa is that the singer-songwriter has created an album that's as immediately accessible as Duffy's ROCKFERRY or Adele's 19 in its blend of R&B, pop, and vintage soul. Even the one track in Asa's native tongue, Eye Adaba, wouldn't sound out of place on a Corinne Bailey Rae album. Information on Aṣa
